SIPs Contribute Energy Efficiency for New Apartment Complex

January 27, 2014

Irvington Lofts, a housing project designed by One 10 Studio, stands out in downtown Indianapolis for its unique application of Thermocore Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). Aimed at providing affordable housing in a historic neighborhood, the project utilized a strategic mix of SIPs to meet both structural and energy efficiency goals.

"We opted for six-and-a-half-inch insulated wall panels on the first floor to address structural needs, complemented by four-inch panels on the upper floors," explained Patrick Kestner, project manager and associate at One 10 Studio. "This approach not only adhered to our budget constraints but also enhanced energy efficiency throughout the building."

The contemporary-style apartment complex is set to achieve a Silver rating under the National Association of Home Builders Green Building Standard. Kestner emphasized the pivotal role of SIPs in this accomplishment, noting, "SIPs serve as the primary building envelope, making them instrumental in achieving our sustainability objectives."

This adaptation maintains the key details and impact of Thermocore SIPs in the Irvington Lofts project while offering a concise and engaging narrative.
